U.S. envoy optimistic on Gaza ceasefire talks, but where do things stand? - National | Globalnews.ca

This week, Steve Witkoff, the U.S. envoy expressed that he has "very good feelings", about possibly implementing a ceasefire to retrieve all hostages taken by Hamas. The proposal for a ceasefire has been brought up to both Israel and Hamas, which will hopefully foster a long-term solution. Witkoff and Hamas have found middle ground and have agreed to a starting point which will include "a full Israel withdrawal, [and] an influx of aid", hopefully leading to permanent resolution. Unfortunately, Israel envisions only a "temporary pause", to allow the release of hostages. The pause will be in full force for 60-days and the two parties will start their exchanges. In the meantime, successfully ending this long-lasting conflict will be difficult as both sides are skeptical about trust and lead with different goals. In this moment, the future is not clear since talk about peace has not been on the table for 15 years.

I'm quite frustrated because of the situation that Palestine is in and have been going through for forever. The fact that Israel's military has "killed over 54,000 Palestinians", predominantly being women and children is absolutely disgusting. While there is just "talk" about a temporary ceasefire, it's obvious that Israel will never permanently stand down. This topic is personal to me because of my families past. My grandmother who is no longer with us was forced out of her home in Haifa when it was considered Palestine years ago, and the only option was to walk to Lebanon. I desperately there to be peace and I would love to see Palestinian people to gain their proper rights back and not have to be faced with famine. Although, I don't believe that Israel with take any more steps towards peace after they collect their hostages; I truly hope that things change for the better.
