Boy, 14, arrested after 'sadistic and cowardly' stabbing of elderly woman in Pickering, Ont.: police

DRPS took care of the situation

On May 29th, Pickering Ontario experienced a tragedy. A 14-year-old boy was arrested by DRPS following the stabbing of an older woman by Lynn Heights Drive. This all happened during the day when the woman was out front of her home, and police have stated that it was done "in a sadistic and cowardly, unprovoked attack", which ended up being captured on film. The young suspect was arrested later that day after a long search including a "helicopter, canine unit, tactical unit, and Toronto Police, and Ontario Provincial Police", which were all necessary. An alert was sent out following the attack and many places across town had to shut down for safety. A nearby resident known as Tyler Dunstan shared his thoughts has, he came home to the neighborhood shortly after the stabbing. Dunstan highlighted that he has seen the older woman around and their community consists of "a lot of friendly people out and about", which makes this terrifying situation even worse. At last, Kevin Ashe, the Mayor has expressed his deepest condolences to the victim's family.

This incident is unsettling knowing that it was done by a teen and was ruled out as unprovoked. Knowing that something of this severity happened in such a calm neighborhood makes it seem like nowhere is truly safe to live anymore. I will never understand how someone could inflict such pain on another human being let alone having it be a random elderly woman. At the moment my thoughts are with the victim's family, and I hope nothing of this sort happens again. This event provides a reminder that life is always unpredictable and should never be taken for granted.
